1832-1915 British Arthur Hughes Gallery Hughes was born in London. His best-known paintings are April Love and The Long Engagement, both of which depict troubled couples contemplating the transience of love and beauty. They were inspired by John Everett Millais's earlier "couple" paintings but place far greater emphasis on the pathos of human inability to maintain the freshness of youthful feeling in comparison to the regenerative power of nature. Like Millais, Hughes also painted an Ophelia and illustrated Keats's poem The Eve of St. Agnes. Hughes's version of the latter is in the form of a secular triptych, a technique he repeated for scenes from Shakespeare's As You Like It. His works are noted for their magical, glowing colouring and delicate draughtsmanship. Hughes was in close contact with the writer George MacDonald and illustrated some of his books as well as producing numerous illustrations for Norman MacLeod's monthly magazine, Good Words. Frederik de Moucheron
(1633-2 January 1686) was a Dutch Golden Age landscape painter. Frederik de Moucheron was the son of the painter Balthazar de Moucheron and Cornelia van Brouckhoven. His father came from a wealthy family of wine traders and is portrayed as one of the younger sons in the Moucheron Family portrait, 1563. Frederik trained with Jan Asselijn and became a landscape painter. He set off at age 22 for Paris, where he spent 3 years and then after a tour of Antwerp, Paris. and Lyon, he settled in 1659 in Amsterdam. In the same year he married Mariecke de Jouderville there and they had 11 children. He is buried in Amsterdam. He painted French, Italian, and Dutch landscapes. To finish these scenes, contemporaries specialized in painting figures collaborated with him, such as Adriaen van de Velde in Amsterdam, Theodor Helmbreker in Paris, and at times Johannes Lingelbach, and Nicolaes Pieterszoon Berchem.
Carel Jacobus Behr
(9 July 1812 in The Hague - 11 November 1895) was a Dutch painter, watercolorist and draftsman. He was a pupil of Bartholomeus Johannes van Hove and mainly painted cityscapes, genre scenes and portraits. In 1836 he produced, commissioned by The Hague municipal government, an image of the town hall there, which carried off the approval of connoisseurs. In 1837 he became a member of the Royal Academy in Amsterdam. His work is found in various collections and different exhibitions, like at the Hague in 1839, Rotterdam in 1840 and again at the Hague in 1841.
